Why most stores lose organic revenue
Three problems account for almost every underperforming store we audit.
What ecommerce SEO includes
The work that moves store revenue, in the order it usually needs doing.
Category and product keyword mapping
Commercial terms assigned to category pages, long tail to products, so the two never compete.
Crawl and index control
Faceted navigation, filters, tags and pagination handled so crawl budget goes to pages that sell.
Product page optimisation
Unique copy, specs, images, review markup and Product schema for rich results.
Category page content
Buying guides written into the category itself, so the page can rank without a separate blog post.
Authority building
Links earned to category pages and buying guides, not just the homepage.
Tracking and reporting
Revenue by landing page, not sessions, so you can see which pages actually pay.
Not sure where your store is leaking?
Send the URL. You get a written list of the indexing, category and product issues, with the fix for each.
How we work on a store
Index control first, because publishing into a bloated index wastes the content.

How we approach stores differently
What ecommerce SEO costs
Store SEO is priced by catalogue size and how much repair is needed before growth work starts.
What you can count on
Your proposal lists exact pricing and scope in writing before you commit, month to month with no lock in. If the store needs development work before SEO can pay back, we will tell you that first.

Why category pages carry ecommerce SEO
People search the way they shop. Someone who knows exactly which model they want searches the product name, and that is a small, late stage audience. Everyone earlier in the process searches the category: the type of product, the use case, the specification. That is where the volume and the margin sit, and it is the part most stores never optimise because product pages feel more important.
A category page that ranks needs more than a grid. It needs copy that answers the buying questions, internal links from the guides that discuss those questions, and a structure that makes the subcategories obvious to both a shopper and a crawler.
Faceted navigation and crawl budget
This is the most expensive technical problem in ecommerce SEO. Filters, sort orders, tags and pagination can multiply a 500 product store into 50,000 crawlable URLs. Google spends its crawl budget on the noise and visits your real categories rarely. On a WooCommerce store we took from zero organic traffic, controlling which of those URLs could be indexed was the change that made everything after it work.
Product pages that can actually rank
- Unique copy on your best sellers, at minimum, rather than the manufacturer text every competitor uses
- Product schema with price, availability and reviews, so listings earn rich results
- Real specifications, because long tail searches are usually specification searches
- Internal links from the guides and categories above them
- A plan for out of stock and discontinued products, so the equity does not vanish
WooCommerce, Shopify and the platform question
Both can rank. WooCommerce gives more control over indexing and templates, which matters at scale, and it is where we also build and fix stores, so technical work does not wait. Shopify is tidier out of the box but fights you on duplicate collection and product URLs. The platform is rarely the reason a store does not rank; the index and the categories usually are.
Content that leads to a cart
Buying guides, comparisons and how to choose articles are worth writing only if they link into categories and products in the body, not just in a footer. An article that ranks and sends nobody to a purchasable page is a vanity metric. We plan the internal links before the article is written, which is a small discipline that changes what the content is worth.
Categories, almost always. They match how people search at the buying stage and they hold more commercial demand. Products come next, and long tail product terms are easier once the category above them ranks.
Control them. Most stores let faceted navigation generate thousands of crawlable URLs, which wastes crawl budget and splits signals. We set canonical, robots and parameter rules so Google reaches the pages that sell.
Both. WooCommerce is where we also build and fix, so technical work ships faster there, but the SEO approach is the same on either platform.
Expect three to six months for meaningful movement, longer on a large catalogue with a messy index. The WooCommerce store in our case study took around 18 months of steady work to reach consistent revenue.
Yes. Unique copy matters most on your best sellers and your category pages; for a long tail catalogue we usually template the structure and write the top performers properly.
Yes, and the data helps. Shopping and search campaigns show which product terms convert, which makes the SEO keyword map far more accurate.
